Hi! I’m Val Chaney, owner and tour guide of The Mountains Are Calling LLC. I am a West Virginia native, growing up in the eastern panhandle in Fort Ashby, WV. Living in the beautiful rolling hills and farmland led me to appreciate nature that eventually led to a career with both the National Park Service and West Virginia State Parks. I have had the opportunity to work in National Parks all over the country and to name a few: Grand Teton National Park in Jackson Hole, WY: Zion National Park in Springdale, UT; and Sequoia National Park in Three Rivers, CA. As for more local parks Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in Harpers Ferry, WV and Shenandoah National Park in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley near Luray, VA. Currently I reside in Berkeley Springs, WV where I am a full-time Park Naturalist at Cacapon Resort State Park. These are the places I love, and I would be honored to share them with you all!

I am offering day excursions by van to Shenandoah National Park on Sundays and Mondays. I will be offering these day trips by individual sign ups and private group tours. Private group tours can be arranged for Harpers Ferry NHP too. More details our on this website. I look forward to guiding you through one of the most scenic parks on the east coast!

I am a certified interpretive tour guide through (NAI) National Association of Interpretation. Interpretation brings meaning to a place, connecting to it’s natural, cultural, and historical importance. I get the opportunity to connect all my patrons to National and State Parks. Together we learn their story; take a hike to a mountain peak or winding river; observe nature’s beauty of wildflowers, birds, wildlife and learn more about the meaning of place. These protected areas bring nature to life by the unique opportunity to immerse in the resource. Have you ever seen a black bear in the wild; a fawn in the tall grass; a monarch butterfly feeding on milkweed; endless mountain views with fall colors painting the sky. If this sound nice…. well, I think the mountains are calling!

Let me provide a perfectly planned day trip that includes sightseeing, history, a featured monthly guided hike, multiple stops at park visitor centers and overlooks, and lunch.
